Before the Way of St. James in the Weinviertel region takes you to Stockerau, you will stop at Leitzersdorf, where a very special highlight awaits you in the form of the local St. James' church.

On your journey along the Way of St. James in the Weinviertel region and after the one in Falkenstein, you will reach the second St. James' church in Leitzersdorf. The parish church of Leitzersdorf, too, is dedicated to St. James.

Baroque altar

The parish has been independent since the 13th century. The church of Leitzersdorf stands out with its Gothic side chapel from the 14th century and its Baroque altar dating back to 1756 in the right side aisle. After a number of rehabilitation works in the area of the church hall and the altar, the Leitzersdorf St. James' church gleams in new splendour. Its parsonage is also executed in Baroque style and dates back to 1737.

St. James

Just like the other three churches dedicated to St. James along the Way of St. James in the Weinviertel region, also the one in Leitzersdorf is dedicated to and named after St. James the Greater, the patron saint of the pilgrims. Therefore, you should allow time for a stop here in any case!
